Why do phishing sites have incorrect addresses?
Why do phishing sites have incorrect addresses?
Each domain address you see in the address bar is unique and is always assigned to its owner. If someone wants to create a website, they will first need to contact a special organisation that registers domains. They will check the international database to ensure that the address is not already occupied. If it is available, it will be assigned to the applicant.
This means that it is not possible to register a fake website using the same address as the real one. However, it is possible to create a domain that is very similar to someone else's by choosing a similar domain area: for example, Colombia (.co) instead of Canada (.ca). However, if you look closely at the address, it is easy to see.
This is why, instead of registering the domain, experienced people have come up with the idea of simulating a browser window in which the address of a trusted site appears on the page.
